WHY IS HYDRATION IMPORTANT?

As you may know, there are several components that go into health and fitness that people often forget about or make less of a priority. Factors such as genetics, heredity, diet, and lifestyle are often overlooked in favor of extreme workouts that produce an abundant amount of sweat. One factor that is absolutely vital (literally and metaphorically speaking) is that of maintaining proper hydration, and it is one we, here at Next Age Fitness, would like to touch on today.
How Can Hydrating Help Me Work Out
Not only will you feel better overall with an adequate amount of water in your system, but you will also be able to work out closer to your maximum potential. Water will help your body regulate its temperature, and will help to lubricate your joints, making your workout easier, and helping you work out harder. It also provides transport for vital nutrients that give you energy.
How Can I Tell If I’m Properly Hydrated
There are several ways to notice your body is not getting the proper amount of hydration. Some signs of dehydration are:
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Muscle cramps
  • Dry mouth
  • Lack of sweating
  • Hard, fast heartbeat
The American Council on Exercise has also suggested you drink water before, during, and after your workout to maintain a healthy hydration level. It recommends more specifically these guidelines:
  • Drink 17 to 20 ounces of water 2 to 3 hours before you start exercising
  • Drink 8 ounces of water 20 to 30 minutes before you start exercising or during your warm-up
  • Drink 7 to 10 ounces of water every 10 to 20 minutes during exercise
  • Drink 8 ounces of water no more than 30 minutes after you exercise
